Giving your garden bed a makeover is way easier than you think with the right tools. From pulling weeds or adding some cool Metal Solar Bollard Lights, here’s a simple guide to help you get it looking fresh and modern.
Before you start laying down mulch, you need to get rid of those weeds. If you’ve got a smaller garden bed, hand-pulling works great. Just grab a weeding garden tool and dig out the roots. Weeding tip I have learned is that pulling the roots, helps stop the weeds from coming back. After you’ve pulled them all, give the soil a good rake to clear out any leftover debris and smooth everything out.
After all the weeding and pruning, you’ll need a good way to dispose of everything. I use the 30 Gallon Leaf Bags because they stand up straight when you’re filling them, making clean-up super easy. Plus, they’re eco-friendly, being recycled and compostable. And the best part? They’re less than $3 for a pack of 5, which is a total steal.
Now that the weeds are gone, let’s give your plants a little TLC. Trim back any overgrown branches or leaves to keep things looking neat. It’ll help your plants get better airflow and sunlight, which is great for their health. I’ve gone through a few hedge trimmers and have found the Cordless Hedge Trimmer to be the best.
Wood Mulch Tip: Wooden Mulch is awesome because it breaks down into your soil and improves its nutrients. But if you want something that lasts longer (without nutrients), go for a rubber mulch.
I start by laying out the mulch bags across the garden bed, positioning them where I plan to spread the mulch. Using a shovel, I open all the bags at once, saving time and avoiding the hassle of opening each one individually. Once the bags are open, I spread the mulch evenly across the bed with a rake or shovel, aiming for about 2-3 inches of coverage. Now my garden bed is ready for the season with minimal effort and maximum impact.
Spread It Out: Lay it down evenly across your garden bed and use a rake to smooth it out. It’ll make your garden look clean and polished.
Mulch can sometimes block water from soaking in, so a deep watering is key. A retractable hose, like this one one, makes it super easy. These hoses are great because they retract themselves, no tangling or kinks! Just pull out what you need, water the bed, and the hose will roll itself back up.
Watering Tip: Make sure you water deeply so the moisture reaches the roots, not just the surface.
Add solar lights to help show off your garden bed. Metal Bollard Solar Lights look modern and give your garden a soft glow at night.
Place Them Right: Space them out about 4-6 feet apart along the garden bed. Stick them in the ground where they’ll get plenty of sunlight, these charge during the sunlight hours.
