If you’re looking to add a little extra flavor around your garage, outdoor LED lights are a great option. I added LED light bulbs that look like flames in each lantern, and they create a really cool, ambient effect. It’s actually a pretty simple project—it took me just a few hours. The flame effect adds a unique touch while making your garage area way more visible at night, which is a bonus for safety.
Decide where to place your lights—typically on either side of the garage door or above. Mark the spots with a pencil and use a level to ensure they’re straight.
Switch off the power at the circuit breaker to stay safe while handling wiring. If you are Using Existing Wiring and there’s an outlet or junction box nearby, connect the new lights to that. If you are using New Wiring and no power source is nearby, you may need to install an outdoor electrical box and run wire from an interior source. Use outdoor-rated wire and conduit if needed.
Drill holes for mounting the screws, attach the fixture to the wall, and tighten it.
Connect the wires: Black (hot) to the black screw, White (neutral) to the white screw, and Ground to the ground screw. Use wire nuts to secure connections and wrap them with electrical tape for extra safety. Lastly, turn the power back on.
That’s it! You’ve got new lighting to enhance both the look and security of your garage.
